The Artists

Audrey Riley (cello) and Andrew Zolinsky (piano) formed this duo in 2001 from a common desire to commission and perform new works for 'cello and piano and to follow on some of the threads of their work together in the group Icebreaker.

They are joined by the guitarist James Woodrow (Gavin Bryars Ensemble and Icebreaker), two drummers who usually work in pop music, Nick Allum (Fatima Mansions, Triffids, Cathal Coughlan) and Rob Allum (Turin Brakes, High Llamas, Add (N) to (X)) and a visual artist, Philip Riley.

The project has become a multi-disciplinary collaboration between new music composers, musicians and a visual artist, intended to develop and expand the traditional 'cello and piano recital.

With the financial assistance of Arts Council England, East Midlands Arts and the PRS for commissioning and performance of nine new works for this ensemble, together with the videos of Philip Riley. The first performance was in London in October 2003. Following touring the ensemble has recorded the programme for a CD/DVD to be released soon, and is beginning a second series.
